Call (773) 377-9135

Nothing tests a marriage quite like one bathroom, four people and a cold morning in a Lincoln Square bungalow, which is how most of our bathroom remodeling calls start.

I'm Chris. We're a locally owned crew, and we handle the whole job: gut remodels, tub to shower conversions, tile, vanities, plumbing and kitchen bath remodeling, from Jefferson Park down to Hyde Park and out through the near suburbs. Some weeks it's a budget bathroom remodel in a two-flat, some weeks it's a full second-floor rebuild.

Here's what we won't do to you:

  • Show up at noon when we said eight
  • Talk down to you about your own house
  • Leave dust in your bedroom at the end of the day
  • Pressure you into tile you don't want

Our goal is simple. Done right, done when we said, priced fairly.

Keep reading for the work itself, the neighborhoods we cover and the questions folks ask first, then call me at (773) 377-9135 and I'll come look.

What happens when you call

Here's what happens when you call: we set a time, I come out, and I spend a good hour in your bathroom with a tape measure and a flashlight. I look at the floor around the toilet, the condition of the supply lines, and whether the stack is where the plans say it is, because in a lot of older two-flats it isn't.

Moving a drain, tiling to the ceiling, or turning a tub alcove into a walk in bathroom setup all change the scope, and so does hauling material up three flights of a vintage walk-up. Then I give you a real timeline, not a hopeful one.

Plenty of bathroom renovation contractors skip that visit and quote off a photo. That's how a bathroom home improvement job turns into a surprise.

Our bathroom remodeling work, our kitchen remodeling, the neighborhoods we cover and the questions we get asked most are all further down this page.

Kitchen Remodeling

Cabinet doors that won't sit square. A soft spot in the floor by the dishwasher.

Kitchen remodeling is the other half of what we do, and most of the kitchens we open up tell the same story: a slow leak under the sink that nobody caught, swollen particleboard, and doors that stopped lining up two years ago. Left alone, that water finds the joists, and then you're paying for framing instead of cabinets.

What moves the price on a kitchen is whether the layout stays put. Keep the sink and range where they are and the job moves fast. Move them, and we're opening walls and chasing supply lines, same as we do when a basement remodeling job needs a wet bar plumbed. Old galvanized pipe and out-of-level floors add days.

Same crew that handles your bathroom home improvement work. Give me a ring at (773) 377-9135.

Basement Finishing

Boxes, a furnace, and a floor drain that smells every time it rains hard.

Basement finishing in a Chicago two-flat starts below the slab, not at the stud wall, because framing over a wet floor just hides the problem for a season. We check the drain tile and the sewer line first.

If you want a bath down there, the cost to add a bathroom addition below grade hinges on whether we need an ejector pit cut into the slab, how far you are from the main stack, and your ceiling height once the ducts are boxed in. A full jacuzzi bath remodel usually belongs upstairs, where the joists and the water heater can carry it.

If the basement plan is really a second unit, that is a job for a home addition contractor as much as a bathroom remodeling crew, and we handle both.

Home Addition Contractor

One bathroom, four people, and a line at the door every morning.

That's the call that gets me out as a home addition contractor instead of a bathroom remodeling guy with a tile saw. Sometimes it's a bump-out off the back, sometimes a second floor over the kitchen, sometimes we annex a closet and an enclosed porch and make a real full bath out of it.

What drives the cost to add a bathroom addition is the distance to your existing stack, whether we cut a foundation or frame above it, and how the new roof ties into the old one. Done badly, you get a vent that gurgles and a floor that's ice in January. Plenty of bath remodeling companies won't touch framing or permits. We do, along with the wider home remodeling around it.

Ring me on (773) 377-9135 and we'll walk the space together.

Home Remodeling

Dated tile, a soft spot in the floor outside the tub, doors that no longer close square.

Kitchen remodeling in Chicago, IL

Most of our work starts as bathroom remodeling and grows from there, because a soft floor by the tub is usually telling you water has been getting past the grout for years and into the subfloor. Leave it and you are replacing joists, not tile. We open the floor, see what is actually under there, and fix it before anything pretty goes down.

Plenty of unlike bath remodeling companies, we handle whole floors of a house, kitchen and baths together, so you are not coordinating three crews in one hallway.

What changes the number is how far the plumbing moves, the condition of the drain stack, whether you are on a third floor walk up, and whether the tub becomes a walk in shower.

Walk In Shower

You're stepping over a tub wall to shower, and your knee is starting to file a complaint.

A walk in shower fixes that, and most of the work happens before you ever see tile. We pull the old tub, check the joists underneath, build a sloped bed, and run a bonded waterproof membrane up the walls before a single tile goes on. Skip that membrane and the water finds the subfloor instead, which usually shows up as a stain on the ceiling below about a year later.

What moves the price on a bath reno like this: the size of the footprint, whether you want it curbless (that means dropping the framing), how far the drain has to move, tile size, and glass thickness.

We handle kitchen and baths, so if your vanity doors are tired, cabinet refacing often rides along with the bathroom remodeling.

Cabinet Refacing

Swollen corners under the vanity doors, and hinges that no longer line up.

Cabinet refacing is the part of a bath reno where we keep your boxes, strip the old doors and drawer fronts, skin the face frames in new veneer or laminate, and hang new doors with soft close hinges. If the carcass is solid, there's no reason to throw it in a dumpster.

If it's particleboard that's been drinking from a slow supply line for years, refacing just puts a nice suit on a wet box, and I'll tell you that at the walkthrough instead of after.

Size of the vanity, door style, whether you want drawers rebuilt, and how much water damage we find all move the number. We do the same thing on kitchen and bathroom cabinets in the same visit when it makes sense.

Call me at (773) 377-9135 and we'll look at your boxes before you commit to full bathroom remodeling.

Residential and commercial bathroom remodeling in Chicago

We do residential and commercial bathroom remodeling across the city, which in practice means homeowners, landlords, condo boards, property managers, and the occasional restaurant or dental office that needs a public restroom that doesn't embarrass them. Every job gets scoped at the property, because a bungalow bath with cast iron stack and a corporate restroom with six stalls are not the same animal of a job and I won't pretend otherwise.

What changes is the schedule and the access. You, in your house, want to know which bathroom your kids use for the next two weeks and whether the dust stays out of the kitchen. A property manager wants work phased so the floor stays open, deliveries that don't block the lobby, and hours that start after the office empties.

Range runs from a small bathroom remodel in a two-flat to a full kitchen and bathroom gut on a rental turnover.

Why Chicago homeowners and businesses choose us

Basement remodeling in Chicago, IL

Chicago homeowners and businesses choose us because we do both, and we do them with the same crew: a second-floor hall bath in a bungalow on Monday, a restroom build-out for a storefront on Wednesday. We're licensed, bonded and insured, and if you want to see the certificate before anyone touches your tile, ask and we'll put it in your hands.

My tile setters set tile. My plumber plumbs. No one gets handed a trade they learned on YouTube over the weekend, which is how good bath contractors get a reputation and how bad ones get callbacks.

The estimate is free, and the number comes from the size of the room, the shape of what's behind the walls, and whether we're moving drains. It doesn't grow afterward.

Call (773) 377-9135 and let's talk through your bathroom remodeling, even a small bathroom remodel. We stand behind what we build.

Areas we serve

The areas we serve run from the lakefront out through the northwest and southwest sides, plus a good stretch of the near suburbs. Here's where our bath contractors work week to week:

  • Lincoln Park
  • Lakeview
  • Logan Square
  • Wicker Park
  • Bucktown
  • Avondale
  • Irving Park
  • Portage Park
  • North Center
  • Ravenswood
  • Edgewater
  • Rogers Park
  • Bridgeport
  • Pilsen
  • Garfield Ridge
  • Mount Greenwood
  • Oak Park
  • Evanston
  • Skokie
  • Berwyn
  • Cicero
  • La Grange
  • Elmwood Park
  • Norridge

Housing stock changes everything. A Logan Square two-flat means working around a neighbor below, so we protect the stack and plan the water shutoff with both units. Bungalow baths out west tend to be small and tiled to the ceiling, and galvanized supply lines turn a tidy bathroom remodeling job into a plumbing job once the wall opens.

One limit: far-suburban runs start early, because nobody wins an argument with the Kennedy at seven. Small jobs out there we pair with a nearby project.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a bathroom remodel cost?

The price of bathroom remodeling swings more than most people expect, and the biggest lever is whether the plumbing moves. Keep the tub, toilet and vanity where they sit and you're paying for materials and labor. Move the drain six feet across a joist bay and we're opening a ceiling below. After that it's size, the tile you pick, whether the subfloor is sound, and what we find once the walls are open. A powder room and a full master bath are not in the same neighborhood of money.

How long will I be without my bathroom?

Figure ten to fifteen working days for a full gut, assuming materials are on site before we start. Demo and rough plumbing take the first two or three days. Then inspection, cement board, tile, grout, and a cure period before anyone steps in the shower. If you have one bathroom, we talk about that before we swing a hammer and we sequence the work so the toilet goes back in early.

Do I need a full remodel or just a repair?

Depends on what's behind the tile, and you can usually tell by pressing on it. Soft spots, grout that keeps cracking in the same line, or a loose toilet flange mean water has been getting in, and a bathroom repair over rot is money burned. If the tile is sound and you just hate the color, reglazing or resurfacing from bathroom refinishers can buy you years without a gut. I'll tell you straight which one you're looking at.

Will you make a mess of the rest of my house?

We hang plastic at the door, run a zip wall, and put floor protection down the hall and stairs. In a two-flat or a walk-up, the stairwell takes the beating, so that gets covered first. Debris goes out daily, not at the end of the week.

What if you find old galvanized pipe or rotted subfloor?

We stop, show you, and price it before we continue. Plenty of older homes here still have galvanized supply lines that have narrowed to a pencil width inside. Covering that up with new tile is how a beautiful bathroom becomes a callback in two years.

Do you offer a warranty or guarantee for your work?

Yes. Honestly, the warranty matters less than doing it right the first time, which is what actually saves you money. We go through exactly what's covered when we come out to measure and quote.

How do we get started?

We come look at the room, talk through layout and materials, and put real numbers on paper. No pressure to book that day.

What moves the number on a bathroom remodeling job is mostly what's hiding behind the drywall. A straight swap of tub, vanity and tile is one thing. Moving the toilet across the room, finding rotted subfloor under a second-floor bath, or working in a walk-up where every bag of thinset goes up three flights, that's another. Smaller bathroom repair work, a leaking valve or a failed shower pan, I can usually handle fast.

I take on kitchen bath remodeling in the same house too, which saves you living through two separate messes.

Office hours are nine to five on weekdays. Leave a message after that and you'll hear back from me, not a call center.
